Main Street in Pataskala, Licking County, Ohio, completed in 1925. It has light-colored brick veneer walls and white-painted stone trim.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the building is an architecturally significant example of early twentieth-century Classical Revival style. It also reflects the prosperity and commercial growth of Pataskala at the turn of the century, driven by local businessmen. The bank was organized in 1888 and this is its third site.","narrative":"Pataskala Banking Company occupies a corner lot at 354 S. Main Street in Pataskala's business district. Completed in 1925, the one-and-a-half-story building is faced in light-colored brick veneer with white-painted stone trim. Fluted pilasters mark the corners, a full entablature encircles the structure, and a paneled attic parapet crowns it. Tall narrow windows light the main banking room, a decorative clock hangs from a corner, and a smaller bracketed entablature marks the entrance on the narrow three-bay end. A drive-in window was later added on the north side. The bank was organized in 1888 by W. H. Mead II and a group of local businessmen, and the Mead family kept control of it. An earlier building went up in 1902, and the present structure is the bank's third site. It was recognized as an architecturally significant Classical Revival building that reflects the pride and prosperity of Pataskala's railroad and agriculture-based economy. It remains in use as a bank.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neo-Classical / Classical Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a bank; condition listed as excellent, interior and exterior.
