Mead of the Mead family, which played a large role in the community's business life.","narrative":"Built between 1870 and 1872, this two-story brick house at 245 S. Main Street in Pataskala is regarded as the town's finest example of Italianate architecture. It has square massing, a low hipped slate roof, paired brackets supporting wide eaves, and tall double-hung windows with stone sills and hoodmolds. Other features include a double bracketed entrance, a projecting first-floor bay window, and a Greek cross plan. A porch added around 1900 has since been removed, and a brick garage and original summer kitchen remain on the lot. C. H. Elliot, who operated the local hardware store, had the house built. It was later acquired by Carl L. Mead, whose family played a large role in the community's business life. Carl Mead began by selling feed, seed, hay, coal and ice, and in 1910 took over the Feed Mill and Elevator. The house was listed for its architecture and for these business associations.","period_of_significance":"1870-1872","architect_builder":"C. H.
