Other local houses have decorative trim and barge work, but none are as intact and distinctive. Notable features include the ornamental bargeboards and finial on the center gable and wood drip-mold window surrounds in square, round and pointed-arched forms.","narrative":"This one-and-a-half-story wood-frame cottage at 105 Broadway in Pataskala is regarded as the community's finest example of Gothic Revival residential design. Built around 1860, it has an intersecting gable roof, a central entrance with transom and sidelights, and a pointed-arched window above the door. Decorative bargeboards and a finial ornament the central gable, and the windows have wood drip-mold surrounds in square, round and pointed-arched shapes. E. B. Joseph, who came to town in the 1860s, is assumed to have built it on the site later occupied by the school. When the school was built in 1907, the house was moved one block south to its current location. Although a front porch and side carport were added later, the house remains largely intact. Other Pataskala houses show decorative trim and barge work, but none match its integrity and distinctiveness, which is why it is recognized as a prime example of mid-nineteenth-century Gothic Revival cottage architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"E.
