It is now used as law offices.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is a good example of Late Victorian/Colonial Revival domestic architecture, with a large wraparound porch, corner gazebo and fine materials. It is also tied to two prominent local lumber suppliers, McDiarmid and later owner Rufus Brown, and to Dick Street's history as a fashionable residential area.","narrative":"Built around 1907 at 330 Dick Street in Fayetteville, this two-and-one-half-story frame house follows the foursquare form popular in the early twentieth century. A wraparound porch with Tuscan columns, a pentagonal corner projection like a gazebo and a pedimented dormer dominates the front. Inside are a tiled foyer, a front parlor with a columned window alcove, a dog-leg staircase and six classically styled fireplace mantels. William McDiarmid, a local lumber dealer and sash and blind manufacturer, had it built on a lot his wife acquired in 1906, and the fine materials were probably supplied through his business. Dick Street was then one of downtown Fayetteville's prime residential areas. Later owners included lumber and building supply man Rufus Brown, whose family lived there until 1940, and Ada Beasley, who ran a boarding house. In the early 1970s the house was converted to offices, restored by builder Earl Parks Bandy, and it still houses a law firm.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"unknown (adaptively restored later by builder/decorator Earl Parks Bandy)","architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Colonial Revival (foursquare)","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Adaptively restored and in use as offices for a local law firm.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:56.906335-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/57/7175/47717557/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/83001863.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001863/3bf48c3f58-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001863/3bf48c3f58-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Apc106","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_McDiarmid_House_(5).JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Apc106</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_McDiarmid_House_(5).JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47717557","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_McDiarmid_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18164189"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/cumberland-county/mcdiarmid-william-house-83001863/"}
