Its symmetrical 6/6 windows, bracketed cornice and decorated porch are key features, as is a stairway hand painted to imitate marble. The surviving outbuildings show how a mid-nineteenth century farm was laid out.","narrative":"Built in 1850 on the south side of the Shawangunk Kill near Tuthilltown, this two-story frame farmhouse in Gardiner, Ulster County, is an intact mid-nineteenth century farmstead. The house has an overhanging gable roof with a bracketed cornice, symmetrically placed 6/6 windows and a flat-roofed porch with decorative arches across the middle three bays. Inside, it follows a center-hall plan one room deep, and the front stairs are painted in a mottled pattern to imitate marble. The cellar retains hewn beams and a pulley once used to run a butter churn. Around 1917 two lean-tos were added at the rear, one holding a kitchen and the other an apartment. Abraham D. Bevier, a judge and farmer, bought the land in 1853 and appears as owner on period maps, which supports the 1850 construction date. A barn, a shed and a privy survive and contribute to the 42.6-acre parcel, which is the remaining agricultural unit once tied to the farm.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Present use is given as vacant; condition is marked fair.
