It retains a high degree of original integrity and represents a mid-nineteenth century working farm complex, though reduced from its original acreage. It is one of only two extant farmhouses of its type and period in the Bath multiple resource area.","narrative":"Built around 1838, this one-and-one-half story farmhouse at 313 Haverling Street in Bath is a five-bay, center-hall frame dwelling in the Greek Revival style. Its gable roof has prominent returns, and a wide frieze is pierced by eyebrow windows. Pilasters mark the corners, the windows are 6/6 double-hung sash, and the paneled front door is framed by sidelights and a transom. A flat-roofed porch supported by square posts spans the center three bays, and two gabled wings extend from the rear. The house sits on a half-acre lot, with open land to the west and north and a row of tall trees forming an alley leading to the farm. It was listed as a well-preserved example of a common mid-nineteenth century rural farmhouse type and as a representative working farm complex, despite its reduced acreage. One of the Haverling brothers, Adam or George, built it; the family owned a vast tract in Bath and donated land for the public school that bears their name.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown; built by one of the Haverling brothers, Adam or George","architectural_style":"Greek Revival (vernacular center-hall farmhouse)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Residential use, in excellent condition on its original site; the only outbuilding is a non-contributing tool shed.
