Its cobblestone construction is unusual in the region and unique in the village.","narrative":"Built around 1851 at 120 West Washington Street in Bath, this two-story, five-bay house is made of cobblestone with red sandstone trim. Its design is attributed to Wellington Salt. Greek Revival features include a gable roof with prominent cornice returns, a wide plain frieze, sandstone quoins, and a classically inspired entrance with pilasters, sidelights and a transom. Around 1920 a Colonial Revival entrance portico, a two-story rear wing, a one-story wing, a sleeping porch and a solarium were added. The house was listed because it is a substantially intact example of Greek Revival residential architecture and because cobblestone is unusual in the region and unique in the village. Records on its early owners are scant. Marcus Peck owned it from 1857 to 1859, then sold it to banker and mill owner Constant Cook. In 1864 it passed to Henry Hull, editor of the Steuben Courier, whose widow still held it in 1891. It remains a private home on a 1.7-acre lot.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect attributed to Wellington Salt; builder unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a private residence; condition listed as good, with no known threats.
