Tomlinson. Its formal west front was oriented to command a view of the village and the Ausable River below. A portico of four slender Doric columns carrying a plain frieze and pediment forms the main design feature, and the front and tympanum are covered in flush board siding while the rest is clapboard. The entrance has pilasters supporting a molded pediment. In the late nineteenth century a one-story porch was added to the south side, the rear wing was extended, and the detached carriage barn was moved and joined to the house. Tomlinson established the first law practice in Keeseville in 1824, served in the state legislature and in Congress, and was Chesterfield Town Supervisor. The house is the village's only temple-style late Federal residence and reflects his status.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition, in residential use, on its original site; a late nineteenth-century porch, rear wing extension and attached carriage barn were added.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:41.987249-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/83001678.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001678/552d502e13-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001678/552d502e13-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KeesevilleNY_TomlinsonHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KeesevilleNY_TomlinsonHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312307","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomlinson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7819026"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/essex-county/tomlinson-house-83001678/"}
