It is an Italian Villa style residence with a low-pitched hipped roof, broadly overhanging bracketed eaves, and a prominent cupola with a bracketed cornice. Oval panels decorate the broad frieze, and segmentally arched wooden lintels top the four-over-four double-hung windows. A one-story porch with bracketed posts wraps the front and northeast sides, and a two-story wing extends from the east corner. Inside, the oak and walnut woodwork remains intact. The house is considered significant as a distinctive example of its style and as the only surviving wood frame building of this type in the village. It is believed to have been built by Lorenzo Bliss, who owned a brewery near Chautauqua Creek in the mid-nineteenth century. It has been used as a residence since construction.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown; believed to have been built by Lorenzo Bliss","architectural_style":"Italian Villa","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence, in good condition, on its original site, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.439198-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/83001647.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001647/0ebd83e957-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83001647/0ebd83e957-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:L._Bliss_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:L._Bliss_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312244","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Bliss_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6456365"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/chautauqua-county/bliss-l-house-83001647/"}
