It is one of only ten surviving single family homes on Harvard Street and one of two surviving houses from the five that stood at the crest of Dana Hill.","narrative":"Perched on a terrace high above Harvard Street in Cambridge, this clapboard Greek Revival mansion was built in 1853-54 for Albert Vinal, a Boston businessman dealing in lumber, wood, coal and lime. It occupies land that was once part of the Dana estate. Wide plain pilasters mark the facade, and a side portico has fluted columns of a composite order. Balconies, an ornate entrance porch and a polygonal bay appear to be additions of the 1870s. Harvard Street between Prospect Street and Massachusetts Avenue was divided into house lots in the 1830s, and by 1854 thirty-three houses stood there, including some of the city's finest Greek Revival mansions. This house is one of only ten surviving single family homes on the street and one of two surviving among five large houses at the crest of Dana Hill. Vinal also developed real estate in Mid Cambridge, subdividing part of the former Inman estate in 1868. The house is recognized for its role in the street's development and as a good example of its style.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by Albert Vinal (original owner)","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.917786-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/58/7904/63790458/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000834.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000834/ae0def0482-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000834/ae0def0482-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Albert_Vinal_House_-_325_Harvard_Street,_Cambridge,_MA_-_IMG_4096.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Albert_Vinal_House_-_325_Harvard_Street,_Cambridge,_MA_-_IMG_4096.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790458","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Vinal_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4711392"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/vinal-albert-house-83000834/"}
