It is attributed to Framingham architect Alexander Esty based on similarities to his other houses, notably the George Weeks House of 1865. It also reflects the agricultural development of northwest Framingham by the Gibbs family over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.","narrative":"Built around 1860 on Edmands Road in rural northwest Framingham, this Italianate farmhouse was probably designed by local architect Alexander Esty. It has a symmetrical south facade with a center entry and two rusticated bays, 6/6 windows with projecting moulded surrounds, and a low hip roof under a wide cornice with small attic windows. A rear ell and two small additions from about 1930 extend the original two-and-a-half-storey block. Esty, born in Framingham in 1826, trained in Boston and designed churches, schools and houses across New England; the attribution rests on similarities to his other Framingham houses, especially the 1865 George Weeks House. The house was probably built for Paul W. Gibbs around the time of his marriage. It is the last of several Gibbs family homesteads along the road, where the family farmed from the 1750s. After 1904 it became a boarding house for farm workers, and farming continued nearby into the 1970s, preserving the setting.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Alexander Esty (probable)","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition and altered; checked as occupied private residence with work in progress; the rural farm setting has been preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.75725-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/4/7956/63795604/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000804.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000804/981f96d8ca-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000804/981f96d8ca-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FraminghamMA_PaulGibbsHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FraminghamMA_PaulGibbsHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63795604","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gibbs_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7150884"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/gibbs-paul-house-83000804/"}
