Elizabeth Frost was the original owner, and her son David Frost, a painter and glazier, is the namesake. The house originally stood at 1705 Massachusetts Avenue. It was moved west in 1889 to make room for a large Colonial Revival house designed by Van Brunt & Howe, and it now sits in a more modest neighborhood that was then being developed. Its features include large chimneys, a hip roof, symmetrical proportions, a four-room center-hall plan and an entrance with an elliptical fan under a cornice. These are typical of early nineteenth-century Federal architecture. The original six-over-six window sash was later replaced with two-over-two sash. The house survives from the years between the Revolutionary War and the suburban growth of Old Cambridge, when Massachusetts Avenue was sparsely settled with modest farmhouses. It was listed for its role in the area's development and as a modest vernacular Federal example.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Listed as residential use; the house was altered and moved in 1889.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:58.003137-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/7905/63790520/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000801.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000801/f2b0e34b65-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000801/f2b0e34b65-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CambridgeMA_DavidFrostHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CambridgeMA_DavidFrostHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790520","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Frost_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5233882"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/frost-david-house-83000801/"}
