It also has ties to local owners, including Samuel Millard, Dr. John Wheeler and the Ingalls family.","narrative":"Located at 51 Summer Street in Rehoboth, this Georgian lean-to house dates to roughly 1710-1750 and sits about 100 feet from the road in a rural setting. Samuel Millard built it and may have owned it in 1710. It then passed to his daughter Hannah Morey and her husband, Dr. John Morey. In 1760 it was sold to Dr. John Wheeler, a local physician described as a \"Practitioner of Physick\" in the Palmer River Precinct, and by the Revolution the Ingalls family owned it. The rear lean-to and a northeast dogleg ell were added about 1775-1800. Inside, chamfered posts, girts and a summer beam were apparently never covered in the right hall, while the left parlor received Federal-period updates such as the mantel and paneled dado. A well-preserved pre-1840 side-entry barn also remains. The house is considered the best surviving example in Rehoboth of a once common house type and the only one of its period retaining its original character.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Built by Samuel Millard (architect unknown)","architectural_style":"Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as recently restored and in use as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.972224-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/61/7895/63789561/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000731.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000731/db94466a4d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000731/db94466a4d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_WheelerIngallsHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_WheelerIngallsHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789561","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheeler%E2%80%93Ingalls_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7992183"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/wheeler-ingalls-house-83000731/"}
