It is also associated with the prominent early Pierce family of the Hornbine section. It is cited under criteria B and C.","narrative":"Set about 300 feet back from Hornbine Road in rural Rehoboth, this farmstead dates to about 1800 and has kept its original arrangement of house, barn and sheds. The house is a one-story, center-chimney cottage with a gable roof, a south-facing entrance with sidelights, its original floor plan and cased corner posts. Service ells were added to the north and east between about 1850 and 1900. Outbuildings include a timber-frame barn contemporary with the house, plus a carriage house, sheds and a henhouse from the mid to late 19th century. Stone fence lines, remains of an orchard and a lone mulberry tree survive, and a family graveyard lies east of the complex. The house was probably built by Captain Mial Pierce, a Rehoboth militia captain, on land given by his father, Deacon Mial Pierce, first Elder of the Hornbine Baptist Church. It was listed as the most intact early 19th century farm complex in the town and for its link to a prominent early family.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; probably built by Captain Mial Pierce","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the farmstead is described as remarkably intact, with its orchard remains and stone fence lines in excellent condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.590705-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/7897/63789781/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000703.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000703/d279a9776a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000703/d279a9776a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_CaptMialPierceFarm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_CaptMialPierceFarm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789781","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capt._Mial_Pierce_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5036457"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/pierce-capt-mial-farm-83000703/"}
