Its exterior proportions are largely unaltered and its interior detail is well preserved, making it an important record of the town's vernacular architecture. It is listed under criterion C.","narrative":"Standing at the corner of Fairview Avenue and Pond Lily Avenue in Rehoboth, this small cottage dates from roughly 1770 to 1800 and combines Georgian and Federal features. It has five bays, a center chimney and clapboard walls, a form once common among the town's farmsteads. Inside, three fireplaces and their mantels are well preserved, with cupboards set into the plastered walls above each hearth, plus original beaded chair rails and mopboards. A rear ell and staircase were added in 1910, and the attic was reworked afterward, but the exterior proportions are otherwise unchanged. Little is known of its builder, though a member of the Peck family, who ran an iron forge and later mills on the nearby Palmer River, or the Wheeler family may have built it. Pond Lily Avenue once led to Peck's milling complex, and by 1871 the house belonged to Allen Bowen. It was listed for its value as a record of late 18th-century vernacular building in Rehoboth.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Transitional Georgian-Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is a residence; a rear ell was added about 1910 and a garage dates from the early 20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.570463-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/93/7895/63789593/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000700.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000700/db21056b2e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000700/db21056b2e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_PeckBowenHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_PeckBowenHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789593","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peck%E2%80%93Bowen_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7158711"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/peck-bowen-house-83000700/"}
