It also has a strong possibility of meeting criterion D because of archaeological features, including an earlier house foundation and a mill dam and foundation. Its history is tied to the Martin family, early settlers of this part of Rehoboth, and later to farmer Welcome E. Horton.","narrative":"This farm at 122 Martin Street in Rehoboth is a two-story, center-chimney house with a clapboard exterior, built between about 1750 and 1770 and showing a transition from Georgian to Federal design. Inside, the west front parlor has ovolo moldings and a mantel with dentils and an eared architrave, while the east parlor keeps its Georgian panelled chimney breast and dado. A screened porch was added at the rear, and a mid-nineteenth-century barn, probably built from reused timbers, stands behind the house. The street takes its name from the Martin family, who first settled this area; Hezekiah Martin's house once stood just east of the present one, and the property remained in Martin hands through 1871. By 1895 it belonged to farmer Welcome E. Horton. Archaeological remains include an earlier house foundation, lost to fire about 1900, and a mill dam and foundation on Rocky Run. Its architecture and these remains support its listing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian (transitional Georgian-Federal)","criteria":["C","D"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; a screened porch has been added to the rear and a back room was panelled in pine around 1930.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:58.017032-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/55/7895/63789555/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000680.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000680/cab1657545-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000680/cab1657545-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_WelcomeHortonFarm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RehobothMA_WelcomeHortonFarm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789555","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_Horton_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7980639"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/horton-welcome-farm-83000680/"}
