Recent restoration uncovered original flooring, fireplaces and feather-edged panelling. It meets criterion C.","narrative":"Built around 1750 at 116 Summer Street in Rehoboth, this Georgian house has a gambrel roof and clapboard walls, and sits about 75 feet back from the road on a small rise. Gambrel houses of this period were once common in the town, but only a handful remain, and this one is among the least altered. Restoration revealed original flooring, fireplaces and feather-edged panelling in two second-floor walls. Some of the chestnut panelling and flooring documents the local onset of chestnut blight. Other original details include horsehair plaster, pegged window casements, cased posts and simple panelled mantels. Evidence suggests the western half may be older than the eastern half. A small west ell, probably mid-nineteenth century, and a rear addition of about 1935 are the main changes. A pre-1840 barn and a carriage shed also survive. The builder is unknown. Nathaniel Drown owned the house during the Revolution and sold it in 1785. It was listed for its architectural integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the form describes the house as well preserved, with a pre-1840 barn and mid-nineteenth century carriage shed in good condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.945227-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/51/7895/63789551/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000663.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000663/47665b9a55-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000663/47665b9a55-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nathaniel_Drown_House,_Rehoboth_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nathaniel_Drown_House,_Rehoboth_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789551","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Drown_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6969584"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/drown-nathaniel-house-83000663/"}
