It is a 1 1/2 story clapboard house with a five-bay front, center hall plan, center chimney, box cornice with dentils, and dentilled window cornices and door entablature. Cap-molded lintels in the Italianate manner were added in the mid-19th century. A barn and shed remain on the large wooded lot, which also has stone retaining walls and wooden fencing. The house is one of six along North Main Street in the Steep Brook area regarded as the best surviving examples of the city's pre-industrial period. Together they show Steep Brook's early prominence and Fall River's original agricultural character, in contrast to the development that followed construction of the first textile mill in 1811. It was listed for its association with that early settlement history and for its architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal Cottage","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as well-maintained and well-sited; used as a single-family residence at the time of the survey.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.399581-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/57/7893/63789357/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000654.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000654/4fdbc99a26-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000654/4fdbc99a26-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Marcbela","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:3775_North_Main.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcbela</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:3775_North_Main.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789357","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Collins_House_(Fall_River,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14716040"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/collins-william-house-83000654/"}
