Borden. It is clapboard-sided and currently a single-family home.","why_significant":"The form calls it the best example of the small two-story mansard cottages in Fall River and the most high-style structure in an area of multi-family buildings. It keeps nearly all its original detail and retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship and setting. The form claims Criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built in 1882 at 92 Globe Street in Fall River, this two-story mansard cottage was home to sisters Ariadne and Mary Borden, who were both principals of local grammar schools. They lived there with their brother, Andrew J. Borden II, a provisions dealer. The family was only distantly related to the Andrew J. Borden known as Lizzie's father. Building records show a wood dwelling with a stone foundation, costing $3,650. The clapboard house has gabled-lintel dormers with three-part sawn brackets, a molded panel door, window caps and a one-story front porch with brackets. Although the mansard style became popular around 1871 and this is a late example, it is described as exuberant and almost entirely intact. It is considered the best of Fall River's small mansard cottages and the most high-style building in a neighborhood of multi-family structures. Reviewers did not accept the argument for eligibility under Criterion A, but the house was entered in the register in 1983. It remains a single-family home.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Second Empire (two-story mansard cottage)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is single family residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.548957-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/35/7894/63789435/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000630.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000630/87b5fb0424-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000630/87b5fb0424-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Marcbela (Marc N.
