Anthony, with Italianate and Eastlake detail.","why_significant":"The form describes it as one of Fall River's best remaining examples of the French Second Empire style. Brick was less common than frame in 19th-century Fall River, and the stone quoins, incised lintels and fine workmanship mark it as an important house. It meets Criterion C despite the loss of some original ornament.","narrative":"This two-story brick mansion at 368 North Main Street in Fall River was built around 1875 for David M. Anthony, a partner in the provision company Anthony, Swift & Co. It replaced the colonial Lafayette-Durfee House, which was moved to Cherry Street. The house is a Second Empire design with Italianate and Eastlake detail, featuring a mansard roof, stone quoins, incised lintels, paired elongated windows, dormers, a double bracketed cornice and an entrance portico. The builder may have been Earle and Horton, whose partner Danforth Horton was the uncle of Anthony's wife. Brick was less common than frame for Fall River houses of the period, which suggests the owner's standing. Early photographs show a cupola, patterned slate roof and balustrades that are now gone, and the carriage house and iron fence have also been removed. It served the Knights of Columbus from 1916 to 1940 and has housed diocesan offices since 1940. It was listed for its architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Builder possibly Earle and Horton (not confirmed in the form)","architectural_style":"Second Empire with Italianate and Eastlake detail","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as Roman Catholic diocesan offices; a rear addition was made c.1881 and the carriage house has been demolished.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.289307-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/11/7894/63789411/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000620.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000620/cdce4efc6e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000620/cdce4efc6e-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Marcbela (Marc N.
