Despite reconstructed elements, it keeps a high degree of architectural integrity and is one of the town's best preserved examples of the extended cottage form from its period. The Allen family also owned it from 1759 until 1895.","narrative":"Located at 108 Homestead Road in Rehoboth, this Georgian center cape was built between about 1738 and 1759. Land in the northwest part of town was conveyed to Deacon Ezekiel Read in 1738, and a house stood there by 1755. In 1759 Elisha Allen bought the house with twelve acres. He or his son Isaiah ran a cordwainer business on the small farm, and the property stayed in the Allen family until 1895. A rear ell was added between about 1775 and 1825, and in 1830 a formerly separate kitchen was attached at the east end. After damage by fire and decline, the house was restored with close attention to original features and documentary evidence, including reconstruction of the main chimney stack, window sashes and interior walls. It is one of a few pre-1750 buildings in Rehoboth not obscured by later changes, and it is among the town's best preserved extended cottages of its era.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; it was damaged by fire in the past and has been under careful renovation by its owners for about eight years.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.266644-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/49/7895/63789549/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83000616.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000616/58c1b5c89a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83000616/58c1b5c89a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elisha_Allen_House,_Rehoboth_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elisha_Allen_House,_Rehoboth_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789549","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisha_Allen_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5361725"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/allen-elisha-house-83000616/"}
