Fisher. The architect or builder is unknown.","why_significant":"The house is argued to be significant in architecture as a relatively intact example of modest late Victorian housing built for Lavonia's lower middle class around 1900. It is also significant in local history through Levi Fisher, a store worker and later cotton ginner who represents that class in the early 20th century.","narrative":"Built in 1905 at 221 Hartwell Road in Lavonia, this one-story frame house was the home of Levi E. Fisher, who worked in C. P. Ray's general mercantile business and later ginned cotton at the Farmers Oil Mill. The house follows a central hall plan under a gabled roof, with a single pediment on the front facade and a shed-roofed porch carried on square wooden columns. Original multi-paned windows and doors survive, along with wainscoting and plastered walls in the hall, a dining room mantel, and tongue and groove paneling in the rear den. Later changes include removal of part of the central hall to enlarge the living room. After Fisher's death the house passed through two owners, apparently as a rental, before being bought in 1948. It is valued locally as an intact example of modest late Victorian housing for the town's lower middle class, and for its link to a typical working resident of early twentieth-century Lavonia.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Modest late Victorian housing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in use as a residence; alterations after 1927 include a partly removed central hall wall and some sheetrocked ceilings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.320331-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/83000206.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206068","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134305430"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/franklin-county/fisher-house-83000206/"}
