It is one of the few houses of its period left near Shawsheen Village. It retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship and setting.","narrative":"Built around 1838-40 at 63 Burnham Road in Andover, this brick house was the home of Jehiel Cochran, a brickmaker born in Andover in 1810. He was likely connected with the town brickyard just west on Burnham Road, which in 1829 produced about 300,000 bricks a year. The house has 2½ stories, a gable roof, a five-bay facade, side chimneys, six-over-six windows with granite lintels, and a center doorway with sidelights and a granite lintel. A barn stands on the property. Its brick construction is rare locally and relates to the builder's trade. The town almshouse on Burnham Road, built about 1840 of brick from the same yard, has a similar style and form. By his death in 1860 Cochran was described as a farmer. The house is a conservative but straightforward example of Greek Revival design, and it is one of the few of its period remaining near Shawsheen Village. It remains a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Jehiel Cochran (builder/original owner)","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence, the same as its original use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.776132-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/86/7900/63790086/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/82004827.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004827/8f6be4de32-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004827/8f6be4de32-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_JehielCochranHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_JehielCochranHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790086","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehiel_Cochran_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6176468"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/cochran-jehiel-house-82004827/"}
