It first stood on the eastern side of the street and was moved to the western side between 1852 and 1872, when the Holt family planned a new house for the original site. Known owners include William Hawley, who bought it in 1803, and Job Abbott, who purchased it in 1835 as a wedding gift for his daughter Lucy on her marriage to Joseph Holt. Later it passed to Daniel Cummings, a nurseryman, and in the 1890s to Augustus Davis, a painter and paper-hanger whose family lived there for about fifty years. The house has a long, asymmetrical six-bay facade, tiny windows, clapboard walls, a wood shingle roof and a large, roughly central chimney, all without ornament. It was listed as an unusual early building type that keeps its original design, materials, workmanship and setting.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Residential use; described as excellently restored and preserved by its present owners.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.111051-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/21/7899/63789921/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/82004820.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004820/429c86ba0a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004820/429c86ba0a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_HoltCummingsDavisHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_HoltCummingsDavisHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789921","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holt-Cummings-Davis_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715549"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/holt-cummings-davis-house-82004820/"}
