It meets Criteria A, B and C and retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship and setting.","narrative":"Built around 1807 at 33 High Street in Andover, this Federal-style house was the home and medical office of Dr. Abiel Pearson (1756-1827), a Dartmouth graduate who began practicing in South Parish in 1787. After his death, the property was sold in 1829 to merchant and manufacturer Benjamin Punchard, who moved the house from the junction of Main and High Streets to its present site in the mid-1840s. It was later converted to a duplex and rented, then sold to trader John Harding in 1852. The two-story clapboard house has a nearly flat hip roof hidden behind a prominent sawn balustrade, a five-bay facade with 6/6 windows, and a pedimented center vestibule with classical trim. A two-story rear ell and side chimneys complete the plain, boxy form. It is recognized for its architecture, its physician owner, and its role in the development of downtown Andover.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; a small barn is listed as an outbuilding.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.451982-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/69/7899/63789969/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/82004807.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004807/a0d97b6fcd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004807/a0d97b6fcd-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Abiel_Pearson_House_-_Andover,_MA_-_DSC03511.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Abiel_Pearson_House_-_Andover,_MA_-_DSC03511.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789969","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiel_Pearson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4667627"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/pearson-abiel-house-82004807/"}
