It forms part of a well-preserved series with two neighboring houses, 4 Lovejoy Road and 125 Dascomb Road, that were built and renovated in the same period. The property is said to retain integrity of design, materials, workmanship and setting.","narrative":"Built around 1780-90 for William Clark, this 2½-story clapboard house at 103 Dascomb Road in Andover began as a Georgian dwelling with a gable roof, center chimney and five-bay facade. Clark left for Tewksbury after misfortune, and the house was sold at auction. Jacob French was living there in 1791, and the French family bought it about 1795. In 1843 it passed to Capt. Paul Pearson Pillsbury, whose descendants lived there until 1926. Between about 1830 and 1860 the house received a Greek Revival renovation that added corner blocks, a classical doorway with sidelights, pedimented gable ends and a heavy columned porch. These changes significantly altered the original effect. Two nearby houses, at 4 Lovejoy Road and 125 Dascomb Road, were built and renovated in the same way, and together they show architectural change on Andover's rural outskirts. The house was listed for its links to the growth of southern Andover and for its design.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Georgian - Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; the form describes the property as well preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.253016-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/25/7899/63789925/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/82004800.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004800/42b37b480a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004800/42b37b480a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_PillsburyFrenchHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_PillsburyFrenchHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789925","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillsbury%E2%80%93French_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7194220"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/pillsbury-french-house-82004800/"}
