It is one of the oldest surviving commercial buildings in Texarkana and is tied to businessman George W. Fouke. It retains much of its early character despite later alterations.","narrative":"Rialto Building at 317 State Line Avenue in Texarkana, Texas, is a three-story commercial block whose plan follows a wedge-shaped lot near the Texas-Arkansas border. Built around 1901-1902 for lumber and railroad businessman George W. Fouke, it was first meant as office space but soon served as apartments. In 1924 it was sold to four physicians and later became known as the Medical Arts Building, a role it still fills. The brick structure received a stucco finish in 1934, and its original windows were replaced in 1946. Even so, details such as Ionic columns at the main entrance, a rusticated arch, string courses, and a dentiled cornice survive. The architect and contractor are not known. It was listed as one of the oldest remaining commercial buildings in the city and one of a few from its era that keep much of their original character.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Early twentieth century vernacular commercial building with minor Classical Revival influence","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in use as medical offices and in good condition; the form notes the second floor is vacant.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.114853-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/46/9713/40971346/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/82004493.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004493/34e392fe5c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82004493/34e392fe5c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Michael Barera","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texarkana_April_2016_024_(Rialto_Building).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Barera</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Texarkana_April_2016_024_(Rialto_Building).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40971346","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q107321573"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/bowie-county/rialto-building-82004493/"}
