It is the only original building left from Bowling Green's first Wood County Fairgrounds, used from 1882 to 1952. The reviewer accepted it under Criterion C as an intact example of a fairground building type, and found significance under Criterion A not demonstrated.","narrative":"Floral Hall, also known as Needle Hall, is a small frame building in Bowling Green's City Park. Built about 1884, it is octagonal, with four sides extended to form a Greek cross. Its details include stick-style ornamentation, large double doors, louvered openings under the eaves, shutters over glass windows, and an eight-sided hip roof covered in hexagonal shingles. Inside, a center pole supports the roof. A stage platform was later added on the southeast side. The hall was first used to display flowers when the Wood County Fair moved to Bowling Green from Tontogany in 1882. Later it became the needlework exhibit hall. The fair moved a mile north in 1952, and the hall is the only original building left from the first fairgrounds. Similar cross-plan fair halls survive in Morrow and Geauga Counties. The building was listed for its architecture as a well-preserved example of a nineteenth-century fairground building type. The city now maintains it as a picnic shelter.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899 (c. 1884)","architect_builder":"Builder/Architect Unknown","architectural_style":"Stick-style ornamentation on an octagonal Greek cross plan","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Maintained by the City of Bowling Green as a picnic shelter in City Park; condition listed as fair, with an added exterior stage platform.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:13.056982-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82003666.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003666/8f4de625fc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003666/8f4de625fc-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Floral_Hall_in_Bowling_Green.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Floral_Hall_in_Bowling_Green.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71992007","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floral_Hall_(Bowling_Green,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5460473"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/wood-county/floral-hall-82003666/"}
