The property was also closely tied to the Renick family, long prominent in Pickaway County. The scale and craftsmanship of the buildings point to an extremely prosperous farm.","narrative":"Renick Farm lies about a mile north of South Bloomfield in Pickaway County, Ohio. Its brick farmhouse was built in two stages. The older rear section dates to about 1830 and was built by Edward Williams, who bought the land in 1820. Joseph Renick purchased the farm in 1850 and added the large front portion, which at least doubled the house's size and shows Greek Revival and Italianate features, including Doric pilasters, a bracketed cornice and corbelled chimneys. Inside, two spiral staircases and ceiling medallions survive in good condition. Behind the house stand a springhouse, a powerhouse, a granary, a chicken house, equipment sheds and a braced-frame barn built in 1929. The nomination values the group as an outstanding collection of mid-nineteenth century rural architecture and notes the Renick family's prominence in the county; they arrived from Virginia in 1803. The farm stayed in the family until 1918 and was bought back by a descendant in 1977. At listing it was vacant and deteriorated.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Edward Williams (built original portion of house); Joseph Renick (responsible for front portion)","architectural_style":"Greek Revival and Italianate characteristics","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as vacant and deteriorated at the time of the nomination, though the building's integrity is intact; the owners planned to preserve and restore the complex.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.964635-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82003631.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003631/86bcdfdd7b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003631/86bcdfdd7b-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Renick_Farm_house.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Renick_Farm_house.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71990909","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renick_Farm_(South_Bloomfield,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7313240"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/pickaway-county/renick-farm-82003631/"}
