Its size and elaborate ornamentation set it apart from nearby buildings, and it is described as a well-preserved, excellent example of Italianate architecture.","narrative":"Standing on gentle farmland just south of Lakeville, Ohio, this 2-1/2 story brick house was built in 1878 for Joseph L. DeYarmon. Its red brick walls are trimmed in white Italianate details, including paired brackets under a projecting cornice, four large gables with dentils, bay windows, and tall one-over-one windows with carved lintels. Inside are five fireplaces, a walnut and cherry spiral staircase, marble corner sinks, a dumb waiter, a basement bake oven, gas lighting, and five ruby red glass transoms. The property once included three oil wells, a spring and cisterns, and the house sits exactly 100 feet from each bordering road. DeYarmon came from a family that moved from Pennsylvania to Wooster, and he and his brother Christian succeeded in grain, horse, farm, and mercantile businesses. The house was listed because it is the largest nineteenth-century residence remaining in Lakeville and a well-preserved Italianate example.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and unaltered, on its original site; occupied as a private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.673364-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82003599.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003599/ca4de4a78c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003599/ca4de4a78c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Chris Light (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Joseph_L_DeYarmon_House_PA120066.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Light (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Joseph_L_DeYarmon_House_PA120066.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989391","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138370965"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/holmes-county/deyarmon-joseph-l-house-82003599/"}
