Its solid brick construction and well-executed entrance stand out, and the braced frame outbuildings add to its rural character. It is also an intact 19th-century farmstead in a township heavily changed by suburban development.","narrative":"Built about 1858 by Stephen Sharp, this brick farmhouse and its group of frame outbuildings sit in rural Genoa Township, Delaware County, near the Franklin County line. The house rests on a raised brick and stone foundation, measures four by two bays, and has a gable roof, end chimneys and a bracketed cornice. Its slightly recessed entrance with transom and sidelights is the most distinctive feature of an otherwise simple facade. A one-story brick wing runs the length of the house, and a decorative porch has been removed. Six braced-frame outbuildings, most with board and batten siding, probably date from the late 19th century. Sharp, a New York native who moved to Ohio in 1807, was reportedly active in the Underground Railroad, served as a Justice of the Peace and led the local Methodist church. The property has stayed in the family. Reservoirs and subdivisions have transformed the surrounding area, which makes this intact farmstead unusual. At the time of listing it stood vacant and deteriorated.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Unknown (house built by Stephen Sharp)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as vacant and in deteriorated condition; the owner, a Sharp descendant, planned to rehabilitate it as his residence.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.423262-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82003564.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003564/135a0bb97d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003564/135a0bb97d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Wdzinc","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stephen_Sharp_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Wdzinc</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stephen_Sharp_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988060","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137765494"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/delaware-county/sharp-stephen-house-82003564/"}
