It combines a tenant farmhouse from the Philipse Manor era (traditionally c. 1760) with a Federal-style main house added c. 1788.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is a rare surviving eighteenth-century residence in southern Westchester County. It incorporates the only tenant farmhouse in Yonkers from the Philipse Manor era that remains on its original site. Together with the Federal-style front section, it illustrates regional vernacular craftsmanship and retains much early fabric.","narrative":"A farmhouse on Bronxville Road in Yonkers preserves two stages of local history in one building. At the rear is a small one-room tenant farmhouse, traditionally dated to about 1760, from the era when the Philipse family held the surrounding manor lands and tenants farmed them for rent. It has a stone foundation, exposed beams and a large open hearth. In front is a gable-roofed Federal-style house added around 1788, according to tradition by Eleazer Hart, a farmer who bought the property after the state confiscated Philipse holdings. The main house keeps a central stair passage, carved mantels, simple moldings and some early floorboards and hardware. Nineteenth-century additions were made at the rear. The house is regarded as one of only two pre-Revolutionary farmhouses surviving in Yonkers, and the only one on its original site, which makes it a rare example of regional vernacular building.","period_of_significance":"pre-1783; c. 1788","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Federal (main section); regional vernacular","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied, private residence. The one-and-one-half-story barn is described as unused. The form says the house has been slightly altered by attempts to enlarge and modernize it, without significant loss of historical value.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.860548-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/82003417.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003417/6bafc4a15d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82003417/6bafc4a15d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:YonkersNY_EleazerHartHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:YonkersNY_EleazerHartHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75323049","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleazer_Hart_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5354474"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/westchester-county/hart-eleazer-house-82003417/"}
