Wisconsin Ave. in Berwyn, Cook County, Illinois, built about 1907 and designed by the architects Tallmadge and Watson.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it a significant example of Prairie School architecture and one of the first buildings designed by Tallmadge and Watson. It is the only house of its kind in Berwyn. Its horizontal massing, open plan, early attached garage and picture window reflect Prairie School ideals. It has stayed essentially intact under one family for three generations.","narrative":"Built around 1907 in Berwyn, Illinois, this two-story stuccoed house with a hipped slate roof is an early work of the architects Tallmadge and Watson, who came out of the Burnham office and followed Wright and Sullivan. Its long, low roofs, lateral wing and porch, banded windows and oak trim, and open plan stress horizontal lines in the Prairie School manner. The house also had an attached garage and a living room picture window, both new ideas in 1907. Inside, quarter-sawn oak trim, leaded glass and integrally colored plaster survive largely intact. Two additions in 1923, designed by the original architects, added a second-floor room over the porch and a rear ground-floor wing, and the main stair entrance was closed off to create a private apartment upstairs. The same family owned and cared for the house for three generations, and original blueprints and specifications survive. It is the only Prairie School house of its kind in Berwyn.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1907)","architect_builder":"Tallmadge + Watson","architectural_style":"Prairie School","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition, with the exterior recently renovated to keep its original appearance; listed as occupied private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:34.866053-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/70/8920/28892070/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/82002524.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002524/2813e0b4ab-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002524/2813e0b4ab-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"ChicagoGeek","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arthur_J._Dunham_House,_Berwyn,_IL.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">ChicagoGeek</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arthur_J._Dunham_House,_Berwyn,_IL.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28892070","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_J._Dunham_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14687384"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/cook-county/dunham-arthur-j-house-82002524/"}
