Tucker.","why_significant":"The house is one of the earlier homes still standing in Lumpkin and a good local example of the plantation plain style, with an unusual asymmetrical arrangement of front doors and windows. It is also significant as the home of Tucker, one of the area's first lawyers and one of five Lumpkin attorneys recognized by the Georgia Supreme Court when it was organized in 1845.","narrative":"This one-story cottage at Florence and Maple Streets in Lumpkin was built shortly after lawyer John A. Tucker bought the lot around 1846. It is a Plantation Plain house with an ell plan, gable roof, two exterior chimneys, weatherboard siding, brick pier foundation and a porch running the length of the front. The front is unusual for its asymmetrical arrangement of a main entrance, a second single-leaf entrance and 2/2 double-hung windows. A two-room ell was added to the rear about 1860, along with gingerbread brackets on the porch columns. Tucker was one of five Lumpkin attorneys admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court when it was organized in 1845, and he took part in the town's early development. He died in 1859, and his wife sold the house in 1882. W.W. Wood bought it in 1890, and it stayed in the Wood family afterward. The house is among the older surviving homes in Lumpkin. It was recorded as vacant and in poor condition, in an area of later trailers and ranch houses.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Plantation Plain Cottage","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as residence/vacant; in poor condition and in need of general building repairs.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.355592-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/82002478.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206604","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/stewart-county/tucker-john-a-house-82002478/"}
