Harrell on a 1.8-acre lot.","why_significant":"The house is significant as the home of George Yarbrough Harrell, a leading Lumpkin lawyer who served in both houses of the Georgia legislature. It is also a good local example of early 20th century Classical Revival architecture, interpreted by local builders in an area with a strong Greek Revival tradition.","narrative":"This one-story Classical Revival house on Broad Street in Lumpkin was built around 1910 for George Yarbrough Harrell, a Lumpkin native and local lawyer. Harrell bought the lot in 1909, just after the Southern Land Company completed the Lumpkin West End Survey, and had the house built soon afterward. The square-plan, hip-roofed frame dwelling has a three-bay front, a central trabeated entrance, paired 2/2 windows on either side, and a porch across the facade with four fluted Doric columns. Inside is a central hall plan with four rooms. Rear shed additions from about 1950 and aluminum siding are the main changes. Harrell served in the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives at intervals between 1900 and 1951 and practiced law for some 59 years until his death in 1952. The house is valued both for that association and as a local interpretation of Classical Revival design in a region with a Greek Revival tradition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Classical Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence and described as being in good condition; alterations include rear shed additions (c. 1950) and aluminum siding.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.350353-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/82002471.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206584","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134457249"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/stewart-county/harrell-george-y-house-82002471/"}
