Wright and builder Thomas Banks.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is a fine, intact example of an early twentieth century vernacular hotel in North Georgia. It represents a major commercial venture in a town founded as a commercial undertaking after the railroad arrived. It was also one of two downtown hotels that served as centers of local social activity, and the only one to survive.","narrative":"Built in 1909 on a corner lot in downtown Chatsworth, Georgia, this two-story brick hotel is wrapped on all sides by two-story porches and topped by a double hip roof with dormers. Thomas Monroe Wright, the owner-operator, built it with his cousin Thomas Banks, a builder from Cleveland, Tennessee. Local materials were used where possible: bricks came from the nearby Chatsworth Brick Company, and timber was cut on Wright's farm and aged a year. Inside, a central stairhall organizes the lobby, parlor, dining room and guest rooms, with original dark-stained woodwork and fireplaces in nearly every room. The hotel opened as Chatsworth was growing after the railroad arrived in 1905, serving travelers, salesmen, new business owners and, later, visiting judges and jurors. It sits about halfway between the courthouse and the depot. It hosted meetings and receptions until closing in 1968, and it is the only one of the town's two early hotels still standing. Alterations have been minimal.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Thomas M.
