Ware, with Steve Townley as contractor.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is one of only two Neo-Classical residences remaining in Lawrenceville and a good, largely intact small-town interpretation of the style. It is also significant as the home of Clarence R. Ware, who served twenty years as school superintendent and was first president of the First National Bank of Lawrenceville.","narrative":"Built in 1910 on North Perry Street in downtown Lawrenceville, this two-story frame house shows how a small Georgia town adapted the Neo-Classical style. A full-width portico with four Ionic columns, a dentil frieze and a cantilevered second-floor balcony dominate the symmetrical front, while the interior is plainer, with simple woodwork and late-Victorian mantels. Clarence R. Ware, who built it, cleared an earlier house on the site that may have dated to the 1820s and had become a community landmark. Ware lived from 1872 to 1955 and moved to Lawrenceville in 1900 to run its schools. He later served as Gwinnett County School Superintendent from 1907 to 1920 and helped organize the First National Bank of Lawrenceville, becoming its first president. The house is one of only two Neo-Classical residences left in a town that has lost much of its historic architecture, and it is the grandest of the few homes remaining downtown.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1910)","architect_builder":"Steve Townley, contractor","architectural_style":"Neo-Classical","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Occupied private residence in fair condition, with few exterior alterations; a rear wood-frame shed and a garage foundation survive.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.173406-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/82002424.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002424/2f24e5f8b3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002424/2f24e5f8b3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jim Roberts","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clarence_R._Ware_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Roberts</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clarence_R._Ware_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208522","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134360223"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/gwinnett-county/ware-clarence-r-house-82002424/"}
