It has since been converted to condominiums.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is a major surviving work of the important Atlanta architect Haralson Bleckley. It is also a good example of an early 20th century garden apartment building, one of the earliest in Atlanta, reflecting the city's growth as a corporate center that needed middle-class housing.","narrative":"Built in 1915-1916 on Durant Place in Atlanta, this two-story brick building was originally an apartment house and now contains condominiums. The street front is buff glazed brick, while the other sides are rough red brick. The long, low building sits on a four-foot terrace, with banks of windows, wide bracketed eaves and three projecting stair towers that each serve four apartments. Inside are eight two-bedroom and four one-bedroom units with high ceilings, hardwood floors with teak inlay, French doors and butler's pantries. It was designed by Haralson Bleckley, a Paris-trained Atlanta architect known for the Bleckley Plan to redevelop the city's railroad gulch and for many schools, theaters, hotels and churches. Few of his works survive, and this is one of the few apartment buildings he designed in Atlanta. It is also valued as one of the city's earliest garden apartments, built when Atlanta's growth as a corporate hub created demand for middle-class housing.","period_of_significance":"1915-1916","architect_builder":"Haralson Bleckley","architectural_style":"Early 20th century garden apartment building","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Occupied, privately owned, in excellent condition; converted from apartments to condominiums, with kitchens remodeled and back porches enclosed in the 1950s.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:40.901355-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/82002421.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002421/de15b004ba-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002421/de15b004ba-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Brogers784","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tyree_Building_-_March_2013.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Brogers784</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tyree_Building_-_March_2013.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208374","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyree_Building","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q85811384"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/fulton-county/tyree-building-82002421/"}
