It was also the home, from construction until 1916, of Richard Henderson Beamer, a banker, county and state officeholder and mayor of Woodland described as the town's chief citizen.","narrative":"Built in 1877-78 on Third Street in Woodland, this two-story raised house is a fine example of High Victorian Italianate design. It has wood-frame construction with channel rustic siding, a truncated hip roof, wide eaves, a heavily bracketed and denticulated cornice, round and segmental-arched windows, wooden quoins, and a portico with Corinthian columns. A decorative iron fence of the period survives along the street. A rear addition and a summer kitchen date from about 1904. In the 1930s the interior was divided into five apartments, and restoration was under way to return it to a single-family home. The house is also tied to Richard Henderson Beamer, who lived there until his death in 1916. Beamer served as county auditor, assessor and sheriff, sat on the State Board of Equalization, was mayor of Woodland, and led the Farmers and Merchants Bank. He platted Beamer's Addition and helped establish the town's Carnegie Library and its tree planting.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899, 1900- (specific dates 1877-8)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"High Victorian Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition listed as fair and altered; the form says a restoration was under way to return the interior to a single-family residence after 1930s conversion to five apartments.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:28.139942-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/82002283.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002283/167361f808-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82002283/167361f808-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Brian Wickstrom","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:R.H._Beamer_House_-_Woodland,_CA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian Wickstrom</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:R.H._Beamer_House_-_Woodland,_CA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123862380","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._H._Beamer_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14683721"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/yolo-county/beamer-r-h-house-82002283/"}
