Landrum.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is an excellent surviving example of Gothic Revival residential architecture, a type once common in Santa Clara County but now being demolished or heavily modernized. It remains virtually original inside and outside and shows the builder's use of pattern books and decorative millwork. It is also a city landmark and was recorded by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1979.","narrative":"Built in 1875 at the corner of Santa Clara and Jackson Streets, this two-story house was designed and constructed by Andrew J. Landrum, a local carpenter who drew on pattern books for a fashionable Gothic Revival residence. The T-shaped frame building has novelty siding, rusticated corner quoins, Italianate porch posts and scroll brackets, pointed Gothic windows in the gables, and decorative cross-bracing that rises above the roofline as small spires. Inside, a center hall with a curving stairway leads to a parlor and dining room with a marble fireplace, a plaster ceiling medallion, and brass hardware with Eastlake decoration. Alterations have been few, mainly a converted pantry, a breakfast nook and an enclosed rear porch. Only two families have lived there. It was valued as a rare and well-preserved example of a house type once common in Santa Clara County, and it is a designated city landmark that was recorded by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1979.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Andrew J.
