It is also tied to prominent political figures who were members.","narrative":"Grace United Methodist Church, at 4105 Junius Street in East Dallas, is a brick Gothic Revival church completed in 1903 to designs by St. Louis architect W. A. Caan. A tall corner bell tower with a finialed steeple, lancet windows, and contrasting brown brick and light cast stone give it a picturesque, grand presence. Inside are white plaster walls, dark wood trim, stained glass windows from a Kansas City studio, and a high vaulted ceiling on exposed trusses. A 1925 remodeling added an educational unit and changed the sanctuary's orientation. The congregation was formed in 1902 by merging the Floyd Street and Haskell Avenue churches, whose roots reach back to a Sunday School begun in 1868. It was among the first suburban churches in Dallas and served the growing Swiss Avenue and Munger Place areas. Early members included a former Dallas mayor, a Texas poet laureate, and a former governor. Its craftsmanship and design made it a local landmark.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"W. A.
