It is described as the only remaining building associated with the Parvin and Davies families, who were important to the economic development of East Berkley in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It is one of the few Georgian houses in East Berkley that retains its stylistic features inside and out.","narrative":"Built of roughcut fieldstone between 1767 and 1772 by William Parvin, this 2½ story house stands on the Old Centre Turnpike in Ontelaunee Township. The original three-bay section has quoined corners and a pedimented north gable with a bulls eye window. A two-bay addition to the south and later additions to the west extend the building. The eastern facade has a double door with transoms and a porch with octagonal columns. Interior features include a Georgian entry hall, a Federal fireback in the original front room, and an ornate gougework mantel in the southern library addition. The property also retains a stone smokehouse and an outhouse. The Parvin family owned the nearby grist and saw mills, and the Davies family took over the property in 1806, enlarging and refining the house by about 1835. The house is valued for its regional Georgian character and its link to the economic development of East Berkley along the road between Reading and Leesport.","period_of_significance":"1767-1872","architect_builder":"William Parvin","architectural_style":"Georgian with Federal detailing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Altered; original fieldstone portion, later additions and features are described as still existing.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:32.467395-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/82001530.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001530/13528fb7d3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001530/13528fb7d3-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Davies_90_Berkley_HD_BerksCo_PA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Davies_90_Berkley_HD_BerksCo_PA.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71995311","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davies_House_(Berks_County,_Pennsylvania)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5241733"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/berks-county/davies-house-82001530/"}
