It retains its original structural design integrity and its Italianate details. It is also tied to the Blair family, who lived there for much of their lives, and it is a designated local landmark.","narrative":"Built in 1875 by James Milton Blair for his bride, Anne Phoebe Cosbey, this two-story, L-shaped brick house at 7844 Remington Road is Montgomery's best surviving example of Italianate architecture. Blair worked as a local butcher, and his family lived in the house for most of their lives. The walls are common bond brick on an ashlar stone foundation with a stone belt course. Windows have compound lintels with decorative incising and lug sills with brackets, a one-story bay projects from the east side, and paired scroll brackets support the eaves of an imbricated slate roof with two corbeled chimneys. Montgomery was an early 19th century crossroads community that saw little development in the later decades of the century, which makes this house unusual. A later porch was removed and the building was carefully renovated. The city designated it a landmark, and it sits next to the Universalist Church Historic District.","period_of_significance":"1875","architect_builder":"James Milton Blair","architectural_style":"Victorian Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition after an extensive exterior and interior renovation; an inappropriate later porch was removed. Listed as occupied, with commercial and private residence uses checked.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.875135-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82001466.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001466/ef6b75474c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001466/ef6b75474c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Ed!
