Adams Street in Sandusky was built in 1874 by Jacob Missig. It has a recessed porch, a gable roof with shingles, a rubble foundation and brick walls laid in running bond. Several old additions extend from the rear. Brick construction and the porch set it apart from the hundreds of frame cottages built in Sandusky in the later 19th century. It is the smallest house on its stretch of the south side of the street, which is lined with homes built between the mid-19th century and the early 20th century. The house is significant for its association with Dr. Ernst Von Schulenburg, a doctor and minister. He wrote Einst und Jetzt in 1889 while living here, a history of Sandusky's German population. A 1959 translation, Sandusky Then & Now, credits him with doing probably more than any man to compile the early history of the city. He died in the house in 1907. It remains a dwelling in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Jacob Missig (builder)","architectural_style":"Cottage","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a dwelling; interior and exterior condition listed as good.
