A colossal portico curves across the front, supported by nine fluted columns and topped with a stone balustrade. The words \"United States of America\" appear on the plain entablature, and an attic story and parapet complete the facade. Tall multi-paned transoms sit above the three central doors, sweeping curved steps lead to the entrance, and the building has an above-ground basement. It replaced a smaller post office and customs house at Columbus Avenue and Market Street and is Sandusky's third post office. Over the years it also housed Federal offices, including customs, the FBI, armed service recruiting, the Home Owners Loan Corporation and the weather bureau. It faces the downtown parks and the First Presbyterian Church at the edge of the commercial district. It was listed for its fine Neo-Classical design.","period_of_significance":"1927","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neo-Classicism","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in use as a post office; interior very good and exterior excellent condition.
