It has a limestone foundation, a hip roof with shingles, painted brick walls and an irregular plan. Wide frieze boards carry brackets, and the window moldings are rounded cast iron. The double front entry has paneled doors with glass panes and a transom. A later porch has dentils along its cornice and is supported by reeded, foliated pillars set in twos and threes, with its south side glassed in. A side portico rests on simple columns. The house was built by a leading merchant of its day. Later residents included Halsey Bost, owner of an important fishery, Mozart Gallup of the Sandusky Tool Company, and the Herbert Farrell family of the Farrell-Cheek Steel Company. The Feick family, builders of many Sandusky buildings, also owned it for years. It sits on a shady lot behind a simple iron fence.","period_of_significance":"1868","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a dwelling; exterior and interior condition listed as excellent, with a later porch addition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.169081-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/82001421.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001421/0cbfc4597c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001421/0cbfc4597c-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_March_House_in_Sandusky.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_March_House_in_Sandusky.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71984892","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137778827"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/erie-county/march-george-house-82001421/"}
