Barney House is a three-story limestone building at 213-215 Fulton Street in Sandusky, Ohio, dating to about 1850. Barney bought the land from the Mad River & Lake Erie Railroad for the house. He had arrived in Sandusky in 1839 and bought the stock of the town's first hardware store. The house has rock-faced cut limestone walls, a gable roof with returns and dormers, frieze windows, a wide cornice board, quoins, stone lintels and sills, and a stone water table. An old porch and bay window and several dormers are early additions, and a double sun porch came later. The house is considered significant as one of Sandusky's early, large limestone buildings. It operated as a boarding house and later as apartments, and housed many prominent early residents of the community before they established their own homes. It stands in an older neighborhood about two blocks from Sandusky Bay, next to the West Market School.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"W.
