It has a Greek Revival pedimented porch and the town's only early dormer windows. It is tied to Pittsboro's growth in the 1850s and shows how the town's modest dwellings developed from one-room settlement houses.","narrative":"Built around 1850 at the corner of West Salisbury and Fayetteville streets in Pittsboro, this one-and-a-half story frame house was commissioned by three sisters, Mary, Sarah and Eliza Reid. It has a broad gable roof, interior chimneys, a three-bay facade, a pedimented entrance porch and pedimented dormers. The plan is a central hall flanked by a double pile of rooms, with Greek Revival exterior detailing over a Georgian/Federal interior tradition. It is the last surviving house of its type in Pittsboro and has the town's only early dormer windows. It also reflects the growth of the 1850s, when river navigation and plank road projects brought prosperity. Later owners included James Moore, Fannie Bynum Moore and the Bland family, who lived there for decades. A renovation in the 1930s added a kitchen, a dining room bay window and sidelights at the entrance, and asbestos shingles now cover the early weatherboards.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal/Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Occupied private residence; the new owners were beginning a restoration at the time of the nomination (1982).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:57.026822-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/83/7174/47717483/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/82001290.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001290/d9fa03ae4e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001290/d9fa03ae4e-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Reid_House_on_Salisbury_Street.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Reid_House_on_Salisbury_Street.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"00000442","name":"Pittsboro Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/north-carolina/pittsboro-historic-district-00000442/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47717483","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reid_House_(Pittsboro,_North_Carolina)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18157189"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/chatham-county/reid-house-82001290/"}
