A central doorway has an arched three-pane transom and four-panel sidelights. The 6/6 windows have segmental arched brick lintels, and the gabled roof carries a modillioned cornice. A shed-roofed porch on two corner piers with decorative brackets shelters the entrance. Brick end chimneys rise on the north and south sides, and a later one-story wing extends from the east. The house does not appear on the 1867 Beers map but is on the 1876 Reed map, then owned by J. and B. Secor. Tax records give 1868 as the construction date, and local builder E. Ferris is considered a likely builder. Later owners included doctors Knight, Winslow and Gray. It is regarded as one of Nelsonville's most significant brick buildings, with its original decorative features intact, and as the finest mid-century Italianate village residence in the area.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown; possibly built by E.
