The interior is grand, with large rooms, high ceilings, period woodwork and ceiling medallions. The dining room was redesigned in the early 20th century and is an excellent Colonial Revival interior.","narrative":"Built around 1880 at 100 South Randolph Avenue in Poughkeepsie, this large Second Empire residence sits on less than an acre ringed by woods, with its facade facing west. It is a two-story brick house with a mansard roof, a raised stone basement, three arched dormers, double windows with brick arches, and a cornice with curved brackets. A sizable servants' wing extends to the rear, and a Gothic-style carriage house and an octagonal outhouse remain on the property. Early maps show the area as a nursery in 1867, and an 1891 map labels the property \"Wilderness,\" owned by Thompson, reportedly a doctor. Inside, high ceilings make the large rooms feel spacious, and period woodwork, plaster ceiling medallions and fireplaces survive. The dining room was redone in the early 20th century and is an excellent Colonial Revival interior. Its Second Empire design in a country setting is the reason for its listing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Second Empire","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as in excellent condition, in original site with no major alterations, and still used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.271447-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/82001166.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001166/eb6a12629d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/82001166/eb6a12629d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pksherpa","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thompson_House_100_S_Randolph_Ave_Poughkeepsie_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pksherpa</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thompson_House_100_S_Randolph_Ave_Poughkeepsie_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312566","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thompson_House_(Poughkeepsie,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7795741"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/thompson-house-82001166/"}
